Chapter 5: How to Improve Your Instagram Profile

    We have now moved on to my favorite social media platform, also known as, Facebook's bigger and better younger brother, Instagram. Personally, I have had some sort of presence on this platform ever since I got my first iPhone in 2012. Instagram was founded in 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger from the idea of creating a place where others can share their photography and social skills in one place.
    
    The platform was an immediate success with over seven million users within the first nine months of launching. Instagram's popularity caught the eyes of the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg and in 2012, Facebook purchased the site for one billion dollars under the name Meta. Instagram is still a very widely used and popular platform with over two billion monthly active users and over 200 million active business accounts. 

    The chapter then dives deeper into Instagram by looking at some statistics from the past year generated from the millions of Instagram users. Did you know that, India is actually the number one country by audience size for Instagram. This shocked me because with how much this platform shapes the U.S culture and society as a whole, therefore I would of thought that the U.S would be number one. Some other important statistics included: Instagram is the third most used social media platform, 12 hours are spent on Instagram per month per user and $43.2 billion dollars have been generated in total ad revenue through the platform.

    Instagram is also a great platform for your business. Approximately, 90% of all Instagram users follow a business on the platform. Instagram's business profiles offer all the same features as a personal account, however, with the added benefits of powerful analytics to create ads, add contact information, industry information, and a business address directly on the profile section. The chapter then adds on to this by following the reader through the process of creating an Instagram business profile to utilize for all of their business's needs. 

   Chapter 5 then outlines the components of an Instagram post including photos, videos, captions, hashtags, links. This also includes the shopping feature that was newly added to the platform, as well as, stories, live, reels, direct and creator features. 

    Instagram has now looked forward to focusing their efforts on creators, video, shopping, and messaging features to enhance these areas of the platform. This platform offers strong engagement opportunities and has proved to have the ability to continually innovate and improve to give their competitors a run for their money.

    I think Instagram is where everything is at right now. Everyone loves going on Instagram for photos, videos, reels, stories, you name it they have it. People buy tons on there now so I think Instagram is the way to go!
